A Real Mommy Reset

Has anyone ever struggled to manage a blessing that they prayed for? Or, more specifically, did you pray to become a mom, and then found that being a mom is hard? If so, you are not alone!

You may be in need of a real mommy reset. Dictionary.com defines the word “reset” this way: to set, adjust, or fix in a new or different way. Try these ideas to reset or set, adjust, or fix your approach to motherhood in a new or different way when you find yourself needing to:

  1. Reclaim the Physical

Take moment and choose to do something that will reset your physical needs that you’ve been neglecting. This could mean eating a healthy meal, taking a bubble bath, washing your hair, getting a pedicure, drinking water, or getting in some movement or a nap.

  1. Be Where You Are When You’re There

Focusing too much on the past can cause depression and focusing too much on the future can cause anxiety. What matters the most is what we can engage with in the present, and how we do so. Center yourself in the “right now”.

  1. Help is a Necessity, Not a Luxury

Releasing control, expectations of ourselves and from others, and guilt long enough to allow others to help us is necessary for any mom needing a reset. This can be in the form of asking someone to watch the kids for an hour or two so you can pray, exercise, get a massage, clean, or have lunch with a friend or significant other.

  1. Celebrate You  How You Want to be Celebrated

On Mother’s Day choose at least one activity you truly want to do, and make it happen. Often our partners and children will plan ways to celebrate us and we appreciate them so much. I challenge you to also plan something that you want to do. This can be sleeping in, having a specific meal, purchasing the gift you really want, or spending time alone.

You’re worthy and deserving of whatever you need to be the best version of you. Happy Mother’s Day!
